When you boot up software that uses 3D graphics (or even when you boot up the computer!), you might hear what sounds like a small jet aircraft taking off within the PC. This is the telltale sound of one of your system fans going into overtime. If this fan is the one on your graphics card, it might be a sign that something’s not quite well with it. Despite the existence of current-limit protection, the switching regulator may not properly operate as intended, especially during startup. For instance, with hiccup mode as the current-limit protection, at initial power-up when the output capacitor is still fully discharged, the switching regulator may enter hiccup mode, causing a longer start-up time or potentially not starting up at all.
